How to pay with Lightning
You pay in dollars with an app you probably already have. Open Cash App or Strike, scan the code, confirm. You don't need to buy or hold any bitcoin first.
Three steps
- Open your app. Cash App, Strike or any of the apps below. Use the one you already have.
- Scan the code. Tap the scan icon in your app and point the camera at the code on your screen. On your phone, tap Open in wallet instead.
- Confirm. Check the dollar amount and tap confirm. The page updates a few seconds later and we email your receipt.
Supported apps
- Cash App: Most common in the US. Pays from your cash balance. Tap the scan icon.
- Strike: Pays from your US dollar balance.
- River: Fund from your bank, pay from the app.
- Wallet of Satoshi: Quick setup, no bank link needed.
- Phoenix: Mobile app from ACINQ.
- Blink: Holds a US dollar balance.
- Exchange apps: Coinbase, Kraken, Binance, Bitfinex, OKX, Bybit, KuCoin.
- Other wallets: Zeus, Breez, Aqua, BlueWallet, Muun, Blixt, Bitkit, Alby Go.
That's more than 25 apps. If your app can scan a Lightning code and pay, it works.
First time?
Some apps, Cash App included, need the feature turned on before your first scan. It's a one-time step inside the app, and it may ask you to confirm who you are (usually name, birthday and the last 4 of your SSN). Do it before you check out so your invoice doesn't run out while you wait. After that, each payment takes a few seconds.
Your invoice holds its price for 15 minutes. If it runs out, nothing is charged. Go back to your cart and check out again for a fresh one.
Your card and bank details
You pay from your own wallet app, so we never see or store card or bank details.
Payments are final
A payment from your app is final once it goes through, so check the amount before you confirm. If something goes wrong with an order, email support@chainwell.bio with your order number and a person will sort out a reship or refund. See Lightning payment terms.
